Foundation Develops Links With Ukrainian Orphanage

Professor Robert Brown, a member of the Foundation's Management Committee, has been working for some time now on developing links between Edinburgh and Kiev. These links are intended to develop across a range of areas of interest from business and cultural through to the equally important social links that enables the work of the Foundation to progress as well as it has done.

Having been made aware of the sterling work that the Hibernian Football supporters have undertaken with the children's home in Dnepropetrovsk (www.dniprokids.com), Professor Brown has been working with the Vorzel orphanage on the recommendation of the administration of Kiev City and as part of the Edinburgh - Kiev projects with a social dimension.

Professor Brown was very pleased to report recently that he had a meeting with Mykola Zajac and a group of ladies from the Ukrainian Community in Edinburgh who are known as the Ukrainian Community Women Carers. They were advised of Professor Brown's work and they gave me two donations which they had prepared- ?200 from Mykola himself and ?200 from the UCWC. This money will be put to good use, for example, it will assist with the costs of two clowns going to the orphanage to play games with the children.

The ladies have also begun to organize a Shoebox Appeal and this is something that members and friends of the Foundation will be advised about as it develops. Watch out for more information on this and other activities associated with the work at Vorzel. It is also hoped that we will be able to post some photographs of the Foundation's support for the children at Vorzel.
